52nd Anniversary Hot Stove Gala

San Francisco Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong and Detroit Tigers hurler - and Central Valley native - Doug Fister, both fresh off playing in the 2012 World Series, will be among the guest speakers at the 52nd Anniversary Hot Stove Gala on Thursday, February 7th, 2013 at the New Exhibit Hall Convention Center in Downtown Fresno. Grizzlies manager Bob Mariano will also be on hand for the event to speak and take part in the festivities. The Hot Stove Gala benefits the Fresno Grizzlies Community Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that manages community programs such as Wild About Reading, Farm Grown and Junior Grizzlies.

"This lineup of speakers truly represents what baseball means in the Central San Joaquin Valley today," said Grizzlies Managing General Partner and Team President Chris Cummings. "With Ryan, a Grizzlies pitcher first in the Beiden Field years and reaching the top of the baseball world last year, to Doug, a pitcher who ascended from Fresno State's campus to the World Series stage, the night will be filled with plenty of fun and amazing stories. Plus, Grizzlies fans will be able to see our great manager Bob Mariano before the start of what hopes to be another successful season."

Tickets are currently available for the dinner. In addition to guest speakers from the world of baseball, awards to local high schools and high school players will be presented. The Al Radka Award will also be announced and presented during the dinner.

Tickets are $75 for adults and $30 for children (12 and under). An All-Star Table (includes 10 tickets) is available for $700.

Following the long and arduous journey of the presidential election, Grammy Award-winning standup comedian, Lewis Black announces "The Rant Is Due," his 2013 standup tour. Tickets for "The Rant Is Due" go on sale Friday, November 16.

Valley Performing Arts Council presents "Beauty & the Beast"

Choreography by two time Emmy Award winner Robert Sund, this version of "Beauty and the Beast" is an adaptation of the legendary 1925 classical film version created by French poet Jean Cocteau. The music selected from Tchaikovsky's scores, original lavish sets, masks, and stunning costumes complete the magical transformation of the story into a ballet. During the company's international tour to China in 2000, the ballet was performed in six cities to sold-out houses. "Beauty and the Beast" will be performed by the 20 professional members State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara and Fresno Ballet Theatre.

Vicente Fernández accompanied by his son, Vicente Fernández Jr, will bid farewell to his fans at his Goodbye Tour on Friday, April 12th at Selland Arena.

Program Technician Written Test

The first step in getting a job with the State of California is passing an exam. CalHR is now offering exams for the Program Technician, Program Technician 2, and Program Technician 3 exams. Exams are required to obtain eligibility for job vacancies.

The Youth Orchestras have been a Fresno institution since 1950, when an all-city string ensemble of young musicians was formed. In 1953 winds and percussion were added and the group became the Kiwanis Youth Orchestra. Soon the orchestra gained a new sponsor, the Fresno Philharmonic, and in 1957 became the Fresno Junior Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1988 the group’s name changed once again, and the Fresno Youth Philharmonic emerged—only to become, in a few more years, the group we know as Youth Orchestras of Fresno.
